Well, hello there!
Last week in Texas…
This week in Texas…
From zero degrees, freezing pipes and no power… to 80 degrees and shorts weather again. Texas weather is definitely not boring.

The prank that saved the day…
Last month, I came across a prank on TikTok with a lightbulb and a lamp. It was both hilarious to watch his face, and intriguing to try and figure out how she was doing it. I couldn’t stop trying to figure it out. So I scrolled through hundreds of comments and finally found someone explaining that they were something called EMERGENCY light bulbs.
This would make a fun prank to pull on my three guys! It’s pretty hard to find something to wow them. This seemed like a sure thing. So I went to Amazon and searched for emergency light bulbs, and ordered a pair for $17.99. When they arrived, I was super excited to try out the prank, so I opened the box and set everything up.
And then…
It didn’t work the way it did on TikTok. Whomp. Whomp.
The lightbulbs worked as they were supposed to… but obviously I got a different kind than the video, or missed something in the TikTok. The prank part was NOT going to work. Even worse? My husband walks in that evening and says, “Why there are funky lightbulbs on the counter?” And I had to confess about the prank that didn’t work. We laughed and shrugged it off.
But THEN… About a month later, this little thing happened in Texas. I’m sure you heard. Texas froze. Both the power AND the water. And all of a sudden, at 3 a.m. during our first rolling blackout, those failed-prank-emergency lightbulbs saved the day. We screwed one in over the kitchen sink and it lit up the kitchen and living room. And we put another in a ceiling fan the game room. They have some kind of rechargeable battery inside. If the power is ON, they charge up. If the power is OFF, you can still turn them on and off with a lights witch as needed. Super cool. Incredibly useful during the 3+ days of rolling blackouts.
Me declaring the failed prank a victory after all:

Thursdays are for Thriving…
One of the things I’m passionate about for Simple Steps to Thrive is making sure we’re not overloading you with information and content just for the sake of pushing something out. We want to give you value. Even more so, we want to be an example and a role model of how to set and keep a pace that’s right for you.
With that in mind, I’ve realized that some of our scheduling around here needs a little tweak to line up with our values and goals.
Each week, on Thursday, you’ll either get a new Thriveletter, or a new podcast episode. But not both on the same day anymore. It’s a better rhythm here behind the scenes, and hopefully a better rhythm for you too.
Simple Step to Thrive
Ask yourself: Is there anywhere in your life where you need to tweak things to set and keep a pace that’s right for you?
THINGS WE LOVE
I’m not a girly girl by any means. You will NEVER find me doing a style tutorial. But I AM trying to put a more effort into my appearance. For example… not wearing my hear up in a clip or messy bun every single day. But my hair is loooonnngg. And thin. And gets tangled and frizzy. So, in an effort to stop ripping my hair out, I went searching for a good detangler. I can’t believe I paid this much money for a single bottle of hair care product. (I just cringed when I went to find the link for you.) Seriously. My non-girly self tried to talk me into the Suave kids detangler. But my you’re-a-grown-@s!-woman side won out, and talked me into doing some research and trying Oribe Run-Through Detangling Primer. Thankfully, this did NOT turn out like the light bulb prank. This is seriously swoony stuff and
IT.
WAS.
WORTH.
IT!
It smells like a spa day, and it’s like magic slippery detangler. Even the next day, my hair is easy to comb. Worth every penny. Makes me feel like:
Just for the JOY of it
What’s for Dinner?

Tried this Instant Pot Pulled Pork the other night. It was phenomenally GOOD and so easy! Definitely going to make this again soon!
Also? Who knew you could get a whole recipe in a GIF?
